Key Highlights from Zoom’s July Releases

Zoom Web Updates

  • Set default Team Chat channels for users - Account owners and admins can set up to 5 default Team Chat channels, to which all new and existing users will automatically be added. The chosen channels must be public channels and users can choose to leave these default channels.

Zoom Phone Updates

  • Advanced encryption for voicemails - Once advanced encryption for Zoom Phone voicemail is enabled, voicemail messages are received and recorded by Zoom servers which encrypt them with keys only known to their intended recipients’ devices. If admins enable the Escrow feature within advanced encryption for voicemails, admins will now be able to access these keys and users voicemails. Shared Line Appearance, Shared Line Group, Call Queue, or Auto Receptionist voicemail are not supported. Additionally, functionalities like email to voicemail, transcriptions, and the ability to check voicemails through dialing or the web are disabled when this feature is enabled. To utilize this feature, users must have a Power Pack license. Only admins with appropriate permissions can manage these voicemails.

Zoom Events Updates

  • Attendee Companion app for Zoom - Attendees can join hybrid events using the companion app. This app allows them to attend an event in person or virtually without leaving Zoom Events. They can find, bookmark, and attend sessions in hybrid events. Attendees can navigate the physical space using maps and digital guides and switch between in-person and virtual webinar/meeting streams. During hybrid events, attendees can connect with in-person and virtual attendees. The companion app is available for iOS and Android devices. This feature may not be immediately available, as it is dependent on a backend server update.

  • Security questions authentication for registration - Hosts can enable security questions for registrants when creating an event. Security questions apply to all registrants regardless of how they join (i.e., sign in to Zoom/IDP or fast join). The host can choose questions from a list of security questions (a template of 10 questions) and can customize up to 3 security questions. The questions will appear on the registration page as a mandatory item. Registrants must pick at least one question from the list and answer it to complete registration. The answer to each question will be associated with unique users, and the answer will be stored safely on the Zoom Events platform. After authentication at joining, registrants must answer the question they chose at registration. Only the registrant has the answer to the security question. If the registrant loses the answer, they will also lose access to the assigned ticket and cannot join the event. Registrants can contact the host for help and can register another ticket from the event detail page.

Zoom IQ for Sales Updates

  • Email compose with Zoom IQ for Sales - Account owners and admins can enable or disable users' option to use Zoom IQ to create follow-up emails directly from the Zoom IQ for Sales Deals page. This setting is available at the account level and is disabled by default. This feature is currently not available for users with External IQ Admin and Zoom IQ Collaborator roles.

Zoom Contact Center Updates

  • Support for regions - Account owners and admins can create regions to organize users based on their location and apply voice routing settings specific to each location. This feature must be enabled by Zoom.

  • Auto answer with queue default greeting - Account owners and admins can improve the call handling efficiency by implementing the auto answer feature for voice engagements. With auto answer, agents can automatically connect with callers, reducing the number of clicks required and providing a standardized caller experience. It also eliminates the need for agents to repeat the same greeting on every engagement, ensuring consistent greetings.

  • Video channel for integrations - The Zendesk and Salesforce integrations for Zoom Contact Center support the video channel. As a result, agents can receive incoming video engagements, make outbound video calls, upgrade a voice call to video call, and chat with the consumer using in-video chat during the video engagement within the integration. During an incoming/outbound video engagement, the agent can see the customer screen pop within the CRM based on the 'email address' match. Configuration settings have been updated with video channel settings for Screen pop and search settings.

tWorkspace Reservation Updates

  • Workspaces admin management of reservations - Admins can add, change, or delete reservations at the building level. They can also override users' reservations in the building. Admins can book a workspace for a user (without needing to set up delegation), change a current workspace reservation of a user, and delete a user's current reservation. The user will receive a  notification if a change was made to the reservation by an admin.

  • Configure a permanent desk - Account owners and admins can assign a user a permanent desk. Permanent desks are not reservable and will always display the assigned user at that desk. This feature displays users, who come into the office every day, and their permanent desks on the floor map.

Business Announcements

  • Zoom Software Lifecycle Policy - We plan to enforce the fourth round of our Software Lifecycle Policy on August 5, 2023, for all products and services, starting with the minimum versions referenced in the table found here. Users running an end-of-life version after August 5 will not be able to join meetings via the Zoom Client and will be prompted to update or join from the Web browser. As always, we highly recommend you regularly download and update to the latest version of Zoom software by checking for updates within the Zoom desktop client or by navigating to zoom.us/download to take advantage of all our latest security and functionality features. Note: The end-of-life enforcement for Zoom Room Controllers on Windows UWP has been extended to August 5, 2023.

  • End of Life for JSON Web Token (JWT) App Type in Zoom Marketplace - As a reminder, Zoom disabled the ability to create new JWT apps on June 1, 2023. Developers have until September 1, 2023 to migrate their JWT-based solutions to the new Server-to-Server OAuth or OAuth app types. For more information, please see the JWT migration guide and JWT deprecation FAQ.

Key Highlights from Zoom’s June Releases

Zoom Desktop Client Updates

Meeting/Webinar Features

  • Zoom IQ Meeting Summary - Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS - Hosts can initiate an AI-generated summarization of the current meeting. This summary is emailed and posted to Team Chat. The ability to receive the meeting summary can be restricted to the host alone, the host along with users on their same account, or extended to all attendees of the meeting, including invitees outside of their organization. All meeting participants will be notified that the summary is being generated, and the meeting host can stop the summary at any time, if necessary. This feature is available as a free trial for Zoom Pro, Zoom Business, Zoom One Business Plus, Zoom One Enterprise, Zoom One Enterprise Plus, and Enterprise Bundle accounts.

Team Chat Features

• Screen sharing in Team Chat - Windows, macOS - Users of Team Chat can instantly share their screen during a one-on-one chat. Similar to screen sharing options in meetings, Team Chat users have the flexibility to choose what they want to share and can even share multiple screens. This feature must be enabled by Zoom and will not be immediately available, as it is dependent on a backend server update currently scheduled for June 24, 2023.

Mail and Calendar features

  • Mobile mail support for Japanese, Spanish, French, and German - Android, iOS - Zoom Mail UI and settings have been localized into Japanese, Spanish, French, and German languages. Previously, only English was supported.

Zoom Web Updates

  • Team Chat message retention logic - Cloud storage retention logic is changed to be more simplified and predictable for group chats and channels that include members from different groups or accounts with different cloud storage retention periods. All group chats and channels will follow the cloud storage retention period of the owner for that group chat or channel. 1:1 chats will continue to use the shortest retention period between the users. Additionally, the web settings for chat retention are renamed to better convey what they control.

  • Change to default for Immersive Scenes setting - The Immersive Scenes setting will be enabled for all accounts. Please visit the release notes for detailed information on who is affected by this change.

  • Enterprise feature release controls - Admins on Enterprise accounts will be able to manage the release of certain new features or products into their environment. Account admins can select a timeline they are comfortable with for evaluating newly released features based on their needs for testing functionality, security, and compliance that are required by their organizational policy. Releases can be done manually or set to automatic release on a specific date. Admins can also track and review the timing of these changes through the Operation Logs report.

  • Chat Compose with Zoom IQ - Admins can allow their users to utilize Smart Compose in Team Chat to write their messages by leveraging context from your conversation. You’ll maintain the ability to change messages by adding tone, inputting prompts, or changing the length of the message to give you confidence in what you’re communicating. This setting is available at the Account level.

Zoom Virtual Agent Updates

  • Zendesk chat integration - Zoom Virtual Agent offers support for Zendesk chat integration, allowing businesses to seamlessly connect their Zoom Virtual Agent bot with their Zendesk instance for a better customer support experience. With this integration, end-users can easily connect with agents via chat if needed, while still using the Zoom Virtual Agent bot for initial queries.

  • Intercom integration - Account owners and admins can integrate Zoom Virtual Agent with Intercom to enable the users to chat with a live Intercom agent within the same UI.

  • Gorgias support channel integration - A new ticket creation integration channel has been added to Zoom Virtual Agent, allowing businesses to leverage the power of the Zoom Virtual Agent bot while providing end-users with the ability to create support tickets when needed. With this integration, the Zoom Virtual Agent bot can now render a ticket form, enabling users to submit their queries or issues directly as support tickets.

Zoom Phone Updates

  • SMS support for US/Canada Toll-free phone numbers - Account owners and admins can enable SMS functionality for their US/Canada Toll-free phone numbers. To activate this feature, they need to fill out a verification form and submit it to Zoom Support. The verification process typically takes up to four weeks. It is important to note that there is a charge per message when using SMS with Toll-free numbers.

Zoom Events Updates

  • Zoom Sessions licensing included in Zoom One Enterprise plan - The Zoom Sessions 1000 license is included in the Zoom One Enterprise Plus plans. Adding Zoom Sessions to Zoom One Enterprise+ unlocks the premium webinar features on Zoom and gives the user additional access to Zoom Sessions on the Zoom Events platform.

  • Restrict hub visibility on the Zoom web portal - Account owners and admins can control the hub visibility options that are available to hub owners on Zoom Events. They can select if hubs will be public, internal, or hidden. This setting can be locked and is available on the Zoom web portal at the account or group level.

Workspace Reservation Updates

  • Workspace Reservation Beta licenses expiration - The Workspace Reservation Beta license is extended until July 28, 2023, until users renew their licenses. After the expiration date, users must purchase a Workspace Reservation license to continue managing and utilizing their workspaces.

Zoom Contact Center Updates

  • Consumer engagement surveys - Zoom is introducing surveys for the Zoom Contact Center voice channel. This feature enables account owners and admins to create voice surveys that support various questions, including multiple-choice and long description. Surveys can be linked to voice queues. Admins can also define role permissions to determine who can view survey results on the contact center analytics dashboard. From the consumer perspective, the feature introduces post-call surveys for voice interactions. After the agent hangs up or a specified duration has passed based on the queue settings, the consumer will hear the survey questions. Consumers can respond to single-choice questions using DTMF or speech, provide ratings using DTMF or speech, and provide long descriptions using speech. This feature must be enabled by Zoom.

  • Australia SMS - Zoom Contact Center is launching SMS capabilities for Australia phone numbers. Account owners and admins can purchase Australia numbers, assign them to flows, and allows agents to engage with consumers through SMS.

  • Changes to phone numbers without SMS 10DLC campaigns - For accounts with US/Canada virtual private numbers for SMS, account owners and admins must have an SMS 10DLC campaign assigned to the number for that number to be used as an entry point to a flow.

Key Highlights from Zoom’s May Releases

New Zoom Events Features

General Features

  • Accelerated Single Sign-On - If a host's organization has a vanity URL with Zoom, they can enable the option to direct attendees to the vanity URL (after attendees click the group join link) instead of Zoom's sign-in page to accelerate authentication. This option is available at both the event and ticket levels.

Host features

The host can change a private ticket to public, regardless of whether the ticket has registrations or not, and vice versa. The updated rule will impact all future registrations.

Key Highlights from Zoom’s April Releases

New Zoom Client Features

Meeting Features

  • Continuous Meeting Chat file and images synchronization (Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS) – Files and images shared during the meeting will synchronize with the dedicated group chat created for the meeting. This allows participants to access them after the meeting. In the same fashion, files and images shared in the dedicated meeting group chat will synchronize with in-meeting chat. This feature will not be immediately available, as it is dependent on a backend server update currently scheduled for May 8, 2023.

  • Zoom IQ Meeting Summary (Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS) –Users can enable this feature to take advantage of the wealth of information generated in meetings. After it's enabled on the web portal, the smart summary will create transcripts of your meetings, including next steps for participants. All meeting participants will be notified that the summary is being generated, and the meeting host can stop the smart summary if necessary.

Team Chat Features

  • Adding guest participants to dedicated group chat for Continuous Meeting Chat (Windows, macOS) – When the host ends a meeting with Continuous Meeting Chat enabled and guest participants in attendance, the host will be prompted to review the guest attendees and choose if they want them added to the group chat and continue having access to the discussion. By default, guest participants, which are participants not directly invited to the meeting through the calendar event, only have access to the chat discussion while in the meeting.

  • Additional supported languages for Message Translation (Windows, macOS, Android, iOS) – The following additional languages are supported: Arabic, Hebrew, Bangla, Danish, Indonesian, Malay, Norwegian, Tagalog, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, and Swedish.

Mail and Calendar Features

  • Out-of-office notice for internal recipients (Windows, macOS) – When emailing an internal recipient who has their status set to Out of Office, users will be notified of that recipient’s current status. This can set the expectation that the recipient may not respond promptly.

Contact Center Features

  • Address book contacts for chat and video (Windows, macOS) – Agents can add web chat and video consumers to the address book. This applies to in-app and web engagements in the chat and video channel. When agents receive an engagement, they will see the associated contact's information.

New Zoom Phone Features

  • Spam call detection and blocking – Account owners and admins can enable automatic spam call tagging or blocking, subject to their consent. Users will be able to mark calls as spam in their individual client call log. Any calls that are blocked will be recorded in the call log as being blocked by the spam filter. If the filter wrongly categorizes a phone number as spam, the admin can whitelist that number to exclude it from the filtering system. Moreover, admins can choose to not enable this feature and have Zoom alert their users that they should manually block calls that they suspect are spam.

  • Support for native SMS in Australia – Account owners and admins can now set up SMS for native numbers in Australia to allow their users to send and receive texts from their Zoom client.

New Zoom Events Features

  • Zoom Events Chat Etiquette Tool – Zoom Events account owners and admins can create Chat Etiquette policies to identify defined keywords or text patterns/regular expressions (such as account numbers) and then determine what action occurs when a policy is triggered. When a user attempts to send a message through Zoom  Events chat and/or in-meeting/webinar chat that triggers a Chat Etiquette policy, the user is either warned or blocked from sending the message. Chat Etiquette policies are configured at the account level in the Zoom web portal. Chat etiquette policies are also applied to Webinar Q&A content, in addition to in-meeting chat, in-webinar chat, and Zoom Events chat.

  • Enable or disable private chat – Zoom Events admins can enable or disable private Zoom Events chat for the account while maintaining public chats. This setting is configured at the account level in the Zoom web portal. This setting is enabled by default.

New Workspace Reservations Features

  • Enhancements to Workspace Reservation web portal – When users click their avatar on the floor map, a panel will display information about the workspace, where users can instantly delete and check in/check out of their reservation

New Zoom Whiteboard Features

Admin Features

  • Custom disclaimer for whiteboard – Admins can create a custom disclaimer to display to whiteboard users before the whiteboard can be used. This feature is typically used to remind users not to input sensitive data to the whiteboard. Admins have the option to customize the disclaimer for internal and external collaborators, control its frequency of appearance, and choose any of the currently supported languages for the text.

New Zoom Virtual Agent Features

  • Salesforce integration with Knowledge Management – A new option within Knowledge Management has been added to connect to Salesforce and customize the content we pull in. With this new integration, users can connect to the Knowledge Items within Salesforce and use them for Q&A, similar to other CRM connections.

  • Support for ticket creation integration channel – Zoom Virtual Agent supports ticket creation integration channel, allowing businesses to seamlessly create tickets for customers who require additional support beyond what the bot can provide.

  • AI-generated training phrases – Zoom Virtual Agent account owners and admins can use a new tool to create intents with relevant training phrases. With this new tool, admins can define the number of generated training phrases, which will be based on the intent name and description. The generated training phrases can then be easily deleted if necessary. This tool aims to improve intent and model performance while saving time for admins.

This feature is also available for the Windows and macOS desktop clients. Zoom Assistant allows the following:

    • With a Zoom Phone Pro license, users have access to a desktop panel interface that provides search, speed dial, ability to call and transfer calls.

Once enabled the admins can then create a chat channel for that group to allow members to communicate with each other via chat.

For more details, visit the new meeting join flow FAQ

  • Zoom Software Lifecycle Policy – We plan to enforce the third round of our Software Lifecycle Policy on May 6, 2023, for all products and services, starting with the minimum versions referenced in the table found here. Key Highlights from Zoom’s February Releases

Updates to the Zoom Client

  • End of support to Android 5 and below – With this release, Android users will need to be on Android 6 or higher to continue to receive additional Zoom app updates. Devices still using Android 5 or below will have 5.12.9 (10320) as the most recent version available.

  • End of support for CentOS 7, Red Hat 7, and Oracle Linux 7 – With this release, Linux users on the CentOS, Red Hat, and Oracle distributions must be on version 8 or higher to continue to receive additional Zoom app updates. Devices still using CentOS, Red Hat, and Oracle 7 or below will have 5.13.4 (711) as the most recent version available.

Updates to Zoom Events and Zoom Sessions

  • Zoom Events licensing migration – When migrating from the old Zoom Events licensing model to the new licensing model, the license owner is required to migrate one existing hub they own (if applicable) or a new hub will be created for the license owner to own the new Zoom Events Unlimited plan. During the migration process, all assets that were on a hub that had multiple owners will be transferred to and owned by the new single owner to which the hub was migrated.

  • Introducing the Zoom Events Unlimited license – The Zoom Events Unlimited license model is structured to prioritize work between all event organizers assigned to the creation of an event. Each Zoom Events Unlimited license includes 1 hub—owned by the license owner (the hub owner)—and includes the capacity to add up to 4 hub hosts and 3 co-editors—known as organizers—who are on the same Zoom account as that hub. Zoom Events Unlimited license holders cannot schedule multiple events for the same date and time and cannot run concurrent live events. An event's capacity is related to the license capacity defined by the hub owner's license.

  • Introducing the Zoom Events Pay Per Attendee license – The Zoom Events Pay Per Attendee license is structured to prioritize total event attendance to an event, at an affordable price per attendee. This licensing model is ideal for users who plan to hold multiple smaller events throughout the year or launch one or two big events in a year, where planning for the total number of registrants/attendees is more plausible. Hosts on the Zoom Events Pay Per Attendee license can run multiple concurrent live events if they own an equal number of hubs.

Updates to Zoom Rooms

  • Warning for Zoom Rooms devices running on macOS 10.13 and iOS 11 –Starting April 2023, the OS on Zoom Rooms devices running on Apple version macOS 10.13 and iOS 11 or lower, will need to be updated for the applications to work. Admins will see a warning in their device list telling them to update the OS version of those devices meeting these criteria.

Updates to Zoom IQ for Sales

  • Support integration with People.ai When enabled by admin, users can view People.ai insights in conversations. People.ai’s insights combine with Zoom IQ for Sales’ conversational intelligence to provide a unique, holistic view of buyer roles and level of engagement across all digital touch points. This helps sellers grow pipeline, increase deal size, improve win rate, and shorten sales cycles

Business Updates

  • JSON Web Token (JWT) retirement – The JWT app type will be completely phased out by June 1, 2023. After this date, you will no longer be able to use your JWT apps. We recommend that you create Server-to-Server OAuth or an OAuth app to replace the functionality of a JWT app in your account. See the FAQ for details.

  • New beta languages to be added to automated and translated captions – In March, we will release an update introducing new languages for transcription and translated captions. We are also introducing the ability to translate between non-English languages, allowing translations between groups of specified Asian and European languages. Visit our support pages to see the complete list of languages and learn how to enable and configure this feature.

  • Test and enable new meeting join flow by April 22 – In January, a temporary web setting to enable the new meeting join flow was added to all paid accounts. This will allow customers to test the new flow before it is force enabled for all accounts on April 22. This change will streamline the user experience of joining a meeting by combining the functionality of the “waiting for host” and Waiting Room windows. For more details, visit the new meeting join flow FAQ.

  • Zoom Software Lifecycle Policy – We plan to enforce the third round of our Software Lifecycle Policy on May 6, 2023, for all products and services, starting with the minimum versions referenced in the table found here. Users running an end-of-life version after May 6 will not be able to join meetings via the Zoom Client and will be prompted to update or join from the Web browser. As always, we highly recommend you regularly download and update to the latest version of Zoom software by checking for updates within the Zoom desktop client or by navigating to zoom.us/download to take advantage of all our latest security and functionality features.
